Sufficient means

The residence authority requires evidence that the applicant has adequate resources. Possible evidence can include:

  • Scholarship decision
  • Bank funds
  • Regular income
  • Support from a parent who has a legal maintenance obligation
  • Grants
  • Other recognised income or assets

The required amount is tied to the current Slovenian basic minimum income (osnovni znesek minimalnega dohodka). From 1 April 2026 this basic minimum income is €507,43 per month, and the proof of means is calculated on it for the whole academic year. Because this tracks the minimum income, it can change, so confirm the current official amount with the responsible upravna enota and ask how it calculates the period and which evidence it accepts.

Parent support

Prepare:

  • Parent statement
  • Proof of relationship
  • Parent income or bank evidence
  • Translation where requested
  • Evidence that clearly identifies the student and support period

Proof of accommodation

Possible evidence:

  • Dormitory confirmation
  • Rental contract
  • Landlord statement
  • Ownership evidence where relevant
  • Scholarship accommodation confirmation
  • Other document accepted by the authority

A false or merely borrowed address can create residence, tax, delivery, and legal problems.

Registering the temporary address

A temporary address normally must be registered within eight days where the legal conditions are met. Depending on the accommodation:

  • A dormitory may register the student.
  • A landlord or accommodation provider may perform the reporting.
  • The student may need to act personally.

Confirm who is responsible and obtain proof.

Changing address

When moving:

  • End the old contract properly.
  • Register the new address.
  • Inform the administrative unit where required.
  • Update university, bank, tax, insurance, and delivery details.
  • Keep proof of the old and new dates.

Parent support is a practical student route

Official study-permit guidance recognises a parent’s support statement where the parent has a legal maintenance obligation. Prepare a statement that is:

  • Notarised
  • Translated as required
  • Clear about the student, support period, and commitment
  • Supported by proof of relationship and financial evidence when requested

The upravna enota decides whether the evidence is sufficient in the individual case.

Sample parent support statement

The statement does not need a special form and one parent signing is enough. It must be written in English, Slovenian, or a former Yugoslav language in Latin script. A simple version reads:

I, [parent full name], born [date] and residing at [address], parent of [student full name], born [date], declare that I will financially support my child during their studies in Slovenia in the academic year 2026/2027 with at least €507,43 per month for the whole academic year. Place, date, and my signature.

Attach proof of the parent-child relationship and, where requested, proof of the parent income or bank funds. Confirm the exact expected wording with your upravna enota, because some offices prefer their own template.

Register the address after receiving the permit

Ask the accommodation provider:

  • Who performs the registration
  • Which contract or ownership evidence is used
  • When proof will be issued
  • What happens when you move

A landlord’s refusal to allow lawful address registration is a serious warning sign.
