Transport options

Bus

Often direct or one-connection. Verify current operator, border route, baggage allowance, and arrival time. Operators that run buses from Macedonia include Hisar Turizam, Hisar Vip and Radika to Ljubljana, and Vardar Turs to Maribor.

Car

Check insurance, registration, road tolls, parking, winter equipment, and how long a foreign-registered vehicle may be used in your circumstances. Many people also offer car-sharing or paid rides; you can find them in Facebook groups such as Makedonska skupina v Ljubljani and Makedonska Skupina v Mariboru.

Plane

Possible arrival airports include Ljubljana, Zagreb, Trieste, Venice, Graz, or Vienna. The useful airport depends on whether you study in Ljubljana, Maribor, Primorska, Nova Gorica, or Celje. Wizz Air offers low-cost tickets on some routes. From Ljubljana airport to the city you can take an Arriva bus or a shuttle such as GoOpti or Tripstair.

Train

Rail may work as part of a route but often requires connections from Macedonia. Always use official operator links for live schedules.

Detailed packing list

Documents

Keep passport, admission, enrolment, residence, insurance, accommodation, education, and medical documents in one accessible folder. Carry originals in hand luggage.

Study and electronics

  • Laptop and charger
  • Headphones
  • Extension lead
  • Desk lamp where needed
  • Notebook and pens
  • Programme-specific equipment
  • Ethernet cable if the accommodation has no reliable Wi-Fi

Clothing

Bring practical seasonal layers, waterproof shoes, winter clothing, and a small number of formal items. Coastal weather and continental winters differ, so pack for the actual city.

Room and kitchen

Before packing, ask which items are already provided: bed size, bedding, towels, hangers, cooking equipment, dishes and cutlery, laundry facilities, and cleaning supplies. Coordinate larger shared items with roommates.

Health and small repairs

Bring personal medication, prescriptions, a short medical summary, plasters, and basic first aid. A compact sewing kit and basic screwdriver can be useful; follow dormitory rules before using tools, candles, or extra electrical devices.
